Supporting Manchester Metropolitan University

The Client

Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) stands as one of the largest universities in the UK.​

​The university received one of the highest numbers of undergraduate applications in 2022 and is set to celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2024, marketing two centuries of academic achievement.​

​Since 2013, MMU has been proud to hold a position among the top three sustainable universities in the country, demonstrating its commitment to environmental responsibility.

The Challenge

The university’s city centre location poses a challenge for visitors due to limited parking availability both on campus and within the city. ​

Despite the presence of several car parks in Manchester city centre, some are situated a considerable distance from the university. Additionally, the parking fees can be a disadvantage for visitors. ​

The Client therefore sought a park and ride shuttle service for prospective applicants that were travelling to the university from outside the city.

The Solution

​CMAC developed a park and ride solution specifically designed for prospective applicants travelling to the university. The provision of shuttles ensured the seamless transportation of approximately 1,300 visitors from Etihad Stadium, to the centrally located university campus.

• ​ By CMAC monitoring the shuttles usage, this allowed MMU to accurately gauge demand. This approach allowed the university to improve planning for future bookings and provided insights into the effectiveness of the park and ride service.
• The partnership between CMAC and MMU extends beyond the initial shuttle service, with further potential arrangements for student trips, staff travel, and upcoming university events.
